–adj.
receiving radio waves by combining the signal-carrying current with a current of different frequency generated in the receiving set, in such a way that audible beats are produced. A component of the resulting output of the circuit has a frequency equivalent to the difference between the frequencies of the original oscillations, and may be amplified and the like more easily.
–v.i.
to produce sounds by a heterodyne system.
